Idola Motorsport is pleased to confirm Jay Leverton as the team’s first confirmed driver for the 2026 GB4 Championship season.

From Karting Success to Car Racing Debut

The 16-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent will make his full-time debut in car racing with Idola Motorsport after an extensive testing and development programme with the team. Leverton officially announced his move into GB4 at a launch event held at Bet365 Stadium, where the livery for his Tatuus MSV GB4-025 was also unveiled.

Leverton began his competitive motorsport career in karting in 2021 through the TeamSport Indoor Karting Cadet Academy. He quickly established himself as a front-running driver, winning the British Indoor Karting Championship local finals in back-to-back seasons and securing the Total Karting Zero Junior Northern Championship title in 2022.

His progression continued in 2023 with a move into outdoor karting, competing in the National Karting Cup Championship and the Super One Series in Junior Rotax. Alongside his karting commitments, Leverton began preparing for the transition to car racing through simulator training at the Young Racing Driver Academy from 2023 onwards.

Jay Leverton said:

“I am really excited to be joining Idola Motorsport for the GB4 2026 season after a great testing programme. The team has a strong reputation and a lot of experience, and I’m confident we can work well together and achieve strong results. I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.”

Extensive GB4 Testing Programme with Idola Motorsport

At the start of 2025, Jay joined Idola Motorsport’s structured testing programme, completing significant mileage in GB4 machinery at circuits including Anglesey and Donington Park. His pace, consistency, and approach impressed the team throughout the year, leading to confirmation of a race seat for 2026.

Leverton will make his GB4 race debut at the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit on 25–26 April 2026.

Idola Motorsport Co-Owner and Team Manager John Whatley added:

“We’re delighted to confirm Jay as part of our 2026 GB4 line-up. He’s developed well throughout his time in our testing programme, improving both speed and consistency, and we’re excited to see how he continues that progress when he goes racing with us next season.”

This announcement marks the first step in Idola Motorsport’s 2026 GB4 campaign, with further driver and team updates to follow.
